NEWS ROUNDUP

ACQUISITION: McWhinney expands BTR portfolio with 60-unit acquisition. McWhinney has acquired Red Hawk Crossings, a 60-unit BTR townhome community in Castle Rock, Colorado. The firm will partner with Asset Living on property management and plans targeted renovations and operational upgrades. Chad McWhinney, CEO and co-founder, said the deal fits McWhinney’s strategy of investing in well-located BTR communities that offer a professionally managed alternative to homeownership. Tim Slater, managing director of acquisitions, added that the project’s strong operating foundation provides an opportunity to enhance the resident experience.

DISPOSITION: Eastdil Secured brokers sale of Phoenix BTR. Eastdil Secured has arranged the sale of Cyrene at Skyline, a newly delivered BTR community in Phoenix’s fast-growing West Valley. The property comprises 102 single-family detached homes with three- and four-bedroom floor plans.

FINANCING: BWE arranges $38.5 million loan for Georgia BTR. BWE provided a $38.5 million bridge loan for Encore at Beacon Place, a 252-unit BTR community in Kathleen, Georgia. Paul Harbor and Caleb Carter of BWE’s Birmingham office originated the financing on behalf of an Alabama-based multifamily investor. Delivered in February 2025, the community features one-, two- and three-bedroom cottages.

PEOPLE MOVES: Harris Associates promotes new partner. Harris Associates has promoted Alex Matthews to partner after more than two years at the firm. Matthews will continue as Head of Build-to-Rent. Founder and CEO Jonathan Harris said Matthews’ promotion reflects both his contribution and the firm’s ambition as it continues to expand. Harris Associates has grown headcount by 60% over the past year and recently appointed Jenna Harris and Jamie Harris as co-managing partners, along with Emma Glover as senior surveyor in its living capital markets team, joining from JLL.
